Meet The Experts
In this month’s edition of Meet the Experts, we’re chatting with our regional manager Jen Sherrin to discuss life at our Melbourne office and the work she does across Australia and Asia-Pacific.

: How would you describe your role and area of expertise at The Future Laboratory?

My role involves ensuring that all our members and prospects across Australia and Asia-Pacific are well versed in The Future Laboratory’s pillars of service, and that they feel welcome to approach us and able to maximise all the tools we offer. I work closely with our senior account manager, Lotty Tucker, and foresight analysts and presenters, Rosanna Iacono and Barry Mowszowski, in Australia to ensure that the content and future-proofing recommendations we are giving our clients are tangible and applicable to their market.

: As a regional manager, what does your typical day look like?

No week is ever the same, mainly due to the vast range of different members and territories that we work with. This may include travelling to Sydney to help our foresight analyst deliver a luxury and hospitality macrotrend keynote to a client, meeting food and drink clients in Melbourne to discuss LS:N Global content and webinars specific to their industry, or spending time with Lotty to map out our exciting roster of events and presentations in early 2023 when our co-founder Chris Sanderson will be visiting Australia.

: How do you guide your clients in turning The Future Laboratory trends into practical and strategic implications?

We do this by working to a credible and robust methodology that we guide our members through in a step-by-step and amendments phase. No brief is ever the same, and this is why we have developed a strategic briefing clinic where we take all client requests to our team of strategists and experts at The Future Laboratory to digest, review and respond to before we start a draft proposal process for the client. The kick-off meeting includes making sure we are completely familiar with their objectives and future vision before embarking on our foresight frameworks.

: What is your favourite way to unwind?

Spending time here in Melbourne with my partner Mitch and son Reggie, neither of whom are particularly relaxing to be around. We love watching our Disney classics as a family, cooking, park play dates with friends and painting. We are currently watching Hocus Pocus 2 on repeat - it’s hilarious!

: Your go-to working snack and after-work tipple?

Toast with Vegemite, avocado and cheese, and a mezcal margarita for my tipple. Yum!

: What was your Plan B career?

Nursing.

: What trend are you most excited about for the year ahead?

I absolutely loved the Question Everything Economy media-facing foresight report and recorded interview we worked on for Beauty Pie. We are incredibly lucky at The Future Laboratory to work with such transparent and ethical members. Founder Marcia Kilgore’s vision for Beauty Pie and consumer respect in terms of inclusion and pricing is fearless and inspirational – a true leader and innovator.
