Welcome to ICYMI*, In case you missed it, our weekly debrief of the trends we spotted first making it to the mainstream and the thought-provoking insights you need to know, curated by our in-house experts.

Noplace, an emerging platform that aims to bring back the social element to social media, has recently soared to the top of the App Store.

Designed for those looking for community, Noplace offers customisable profiles reminiscent of Myspace and allows users to share their activities and preferences in a simple, short text format.

The platform taps into Gen Z’s anemoia – nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known – for the pre-Facebook era as well as their need for connection.

#WeSawItComing : Climate Change is Re-routing Travel

In a new report, Virtuoso, the travel industry’s insiders’ club, highlights how Scandinavia and other cool destinations are top of mind for summer 2024 holiday-makers wanting to escape crowds and hot temperatures. Iceland and Sweden are experiencing a surge in bookings (49% and 47%, respectively), while other cool-weather havens such as The Netherlands (up 33%), Norway (16%) and Ireland (13%) are also experiencing increased interest.

In March 2024, in our analysis of How Climate Change is Re-routing Travel, we analysed how new destinations, off-peak travel times and safety concerns are the new normal for travellers avoiding unbearable heat. But LS:N Global has been tracking this trend for over a decade in reports such as A Regenerative Travel Revolution (2021), Slow Honeymoons (2021), Tourism Decelerated (2019), The Generation Z Anti-tourists Changing Travel (2019) and Last Chance Travel & Hospitality (2012).

To continue to track this trend and access our entire archive of Travel & Hospitality reports, become a member now.

‘Across the board, destinations like Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden are increasingly appealing to families, as well as couples, groups of friends and solo travellers.’
