Equilibrium Cities

The pandemic has sapped the energy of urban life. Revealing stark inequalities between global citizens, Covid-19 is exposing issues with urban safety, public services and access to green spaces in our cities. This demands new and urgent approaches to how our streets and spaces are used, alongside a reframing of who and what are the priorities of our future city. In the 2020s, we anticipate the rise of Equilibrium Cities.

As we move through The Transformative Twenties, data-first digital systems will enable people to shape and experience their cities remotely, possibly even in alternative realms.  This presentation covers:

: Drivers

As the pandemic and sociopolitical shifts lay bare myriad inequalities in our urban environments, a call for change is emerging from hyper-local living. We explore global drivers such as Accelerating Technologies, Dislocated World and Global vs Local.

: Insight

In the decade ahead, city living will become greener, more inclusive and responsive, shaping a future of equitable and progressive urban living. We present trends such as Blended Cultural Realms, Salubrious Streets and Natural Foundations.

: Foresight

By 2030, global cities’ growth will mean urban issues are tackled through hyper-connectivity, virtual experiences and networked cooperation. We delve into the future of  Civilian Safety Nets, City Super-networks and Digital Domains.

Reformation Generation

Marking a new era of collaboration between brands and Generation Z, opportunities are arising to re-assemble, decentralise and decolonise our outdated societal systems.

In this presentation, we explore how the institutions that have traditionally held society together – education, business, government and the mass media – no longer hold the power of governance they once did, leaving Generation Z to step in. We delve into:

: Hindsight

Coming of age in a global crisis, Generation Z are making the most of the situation by questioning current systems, reforming the career ladder and eschewing mainstream media.

: Insight

As this generation create decentralised places and spaces to express their opinions and challenge the online and offline status quo, brands are helping them on their mission.

: Foresight

In the 2030s the instigators of the Reformation Generation will redefine the home, decolonise currencies and seek ownership over the brands and products they consume.

Betterverse Building

As the virtual land grabs begin, how can we ensure this hyper-immersive, world-changing frontier is built and governed in the right way rather than dominated by big tech?

Our new Betterverse Building presentation helps businesses tap into this digital space, understand its massive potential and explore why we need to build a Betterverse – a metaverse that stands for equitability, inclusion, representation, accessibility, transformation, and personal and planetary betterment. We delve into:

: Inclusitivity

As more citizens and companies populate the metaverse, they will engage diverse voices and pave a path for representation and inclusion in this new iteration of the internet, with increased inclusivity an inherent benefit of immersive, virtual environments.

: Education

In the next decade platforms will harness meta-technology to transform how we learn, educating multi-generational citizens and preparing them for a future of self-directed knowledge and life-long learning.

: Transformation

Already, brands are looking beyond fleeting initiatives to develop creative, adaptive and interactive virtual environments that foster long-term engagement, loyalty, personal transformation and entirely new ways of engaging with products and services.
