Synthetics: How man-made is set to change our material future

The future is bright. The future is synthetic. The future is also about a new way of looking at sustainability, longevity and ways to reduce our carbon footprint. While organic may be good, it is also costly and, in many cases, intensive and wasteful. But, as our research for Super Synthetics indicates, there is a whole new world of man-made and hybrid fibres that will forever alter the way we design products, manufacture clothing, create furniture and recycle packaging.

From rapid prototyping to injection moulding and the rise of the self-learning machine, synthetics are making a long-overdue comeback. This time around, it's with an imperative that unites function and form, and performance and sustainability. Significantly, it is often about an eco-footprint that makes synthetics more appealing and 'clean' than their organic counterparts. Welcome to the world of the natural nuclear - a place and a process where the wonders of science are set to change the way we feel about man-made materials.
